Is a video call with Sinterklaas safe for my child?
Yes. We do not record the call, we do not store your child's name or profile, the camera is off by default, and Sinterklaas never asks for an address or school.
The details
Your child's voice is streamed live to our AI provider to understand the words and generate Sinterklaas's answer. We do not record or store the conversation. The provider keeps encrypted audio for up to 30 days only to detect abuse, and does not use it to train models.
Your child's first name, age and interests stay in your own browser. They are sent to Sinterklaas for the call and are not written to our database or logs.
The camera is off unless you switch it on and confirm the consent text. With the camera on, a photo goes to Sinterklaas every time your child speaks, so he can see a drawing or a costume. Photos are never stored. You see exactly what Sinterklaas sees.
Sinterklaas is instructed never to ask for an address, street, school or phone number, never to promise a gift, and never to say anything frightening. If your child says something worrying, Sinterklaas stays warm and moves on.
A parent account is required, and a purchase or a confirmed e-mail address shows that an adult is in charge. Sinterklaas is designed for a parent sitting next to the child.
We are a Dutch company and follow the GDPR; for families in the United States we follow COPPA. The full privacy policy is on this site.
