What age is a video call with Sinterklaas for?
Ages three to nine. Three-year-olds answer simple questions; eight- and nine-year-olds enjoy the stories and the fact that Sinterklaas really listens.
The details
From three: children answer yes-or-no questions and show things to the camera. Sinterklaas uses short sentences and waits patiently.
Four to seven is the sweet spot. Children believe, talk freely, and Sinterklaas's stories (the countdown in the sleigh, the sleeping reindeer) work best.
Eight and nine: children test Sinterklaas. He knows their name, their hobby and the note you wrote, which usually settles it. The wish-list and golden-star calls suit this age.
Ten and up: possible, but many children at this age have stopped believing. A birthday call can still be a fun joke.
Each story page says which ages it suits. The Sleeping Reindeer is for three to seven; the others for three to nine.
Good to know
- Sinterklaas speaks one child at a time. Siblings can take turns in separate short calls.
- Shy children: sit next to them and whisper a hint to Sinterklaas if needed.
