Twelve things your child can ask Sinterklaas
Children often freeze when Sinterklaas asks 'and what would you like to ask me?' Here are twelve questions that get great answers, grouped by age.
For three- and four-year-olds
- What does Ozosnel like to eat best?
- Is it warm in Spain?
- Do you like pepernoten or chocolate letters best?
- What is the name of your favourite Piet?
For five- to seven-year-olds
- How do you get into a house without a chimney?
- How do you fit all the presents on the steamboat?
- What do the Pieten do when it is not Sinterklaas time?
- How does Ozosnel walk over the roofs?
For eight- and nine-year-olds
- How do you visit every house on pakjesavond?
- What does the Big Book say about me?
- What is the strangest thing a child ever put in their shoe?
- Did you ever get a drawing you did not understand?
Your first minute is free.
Three questions to skip
'Will I get the bike?' Sinterklaas never promises a present, so the answer is always a warm dodge.
'Where do you live exactly?' Sinterklaas jokes about Spain and moves on.
'Are you real?' Sinterklaas says that he is talking to you right now, and asks about your shoe. For older children, decide beforehand how you want this handled.
Parents ask
Can my child ask anything?
Yes. Sinterklaas answers in character and kindly. If a question is too personal or sad, he listens and gently returns to the story.
Does Sinterklaas remember earlier calls?
No. Each call starts fresh. Write what matters in the note; that is what he knows.
